observer status

My shoulder is suffering from moderate dysfunction at present. This means I was something of a voyeur on a trip to Vancouver Island this past weekend.

Tess, Lea, and Eric have their seal disguises on and are ready to tease the sharks.

While I could not surf, I was able to reflect on academic postulations and hypothesize liberally. And bury Olga in the sand.

Olga is difficult to find. Use your mind to draw a line from each of my pointed fingers out away from my body. At the location where those mind-lines intersect, Olga lies in wait.

A pursuit of gnar led us to a danger log of doom. Lea was unphased by the pool of phytoplankton lying in wait to devour her.

Nerves of steel.

Then we rode on a boat.

Contrary to appearances, this was an incredibly happy moment. I was experiencing joy.

It was very windy so we decided to unwind with some yoga.

looking back

In case you missed it, last week Cassini took some great photos of Earth and its moon while the sun was eclipsed behind Saturn.

Doug! wake up!

Realizing that Doug places tremendous faith in the portends of astrology and having learned he has a desire to be kept in the loop if anything big is happening, I have prepared the following report.

Uranus turns retrograde TODAY. As if that wasn’t enough, Mercury is still retrograde for three more days.

Obviously with a Mercury retrograde in gemini we all need to be on top of our game.

Because Gemini rules communications, be prepared for miscommunications. Expect lots of phone calls or none, and lost or misplaced mail. You may not articulate clearly. At the same time, old friends may reconnect. (source)

I recommend you use this information to take immediate action.

Uranus spends about half its time retrograde and, although a quick glance at the sky would lead you to observe that Uranus is right smack in the middle of Pisces, any astrologer worth their salt would quickly remind you that particular bit of astral territory is owned by Aries. Also, that person would probably remind you not to let observation interfere with astrology. “Fact”: Uranus has been in Aries since 2011 and will be there until 2018. You might think this longevity means we can all relax. Wrong.

Uranus tends to be more potent and more Uranian when retrograde. … When Uranus transits retrograde, it will reawaken freedom urges causing [Doug] to suddenly rebel against any ruts or confinement in life. (source)

In summary, Doug, watch out for those urges welling up in Uranus. You will be getting more Uranian. You will have trouble articulating how this makes you feel. Anticipate lots of supportive phone calls from old friends. Also anticipate no calls.

May the fours be with you

This weekend a group of four of us set out into Tetrahedron Park.

Saturday morning Miki, Tess, Katherine (of Midrand, not Katherine of Ontarioville) and I awoke in Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast. The morning began with a skinny dip in Garden Bay Lake. As is well known, this is the best way to wake up.

The four of us then drove down to Sechelt, forty four kilometers away, and began our ascent into the park.

Our first stop was unplanned. The road recommended four wheel drive. Miki’s car did not have this, although it did have four wheel stopping power.

We got a flat tyre. After removing the flat and putting on the rather tiny looking spare we were now left with only four useable tyres! No spares left!

We made it.

As soon as we arrived at Edwards Lake the clothes dropped off and we were all in the water. As is well known, skinny dipping is the best way to take an early-afternoon break.

Then we had to ford some rivers.

And cross broken bridges.

image

As is well known, skinny dipping is the best way to take a mid-afternoon break. We did that in Chapman Lake. That was probably the most important skinny dip because right before it we were lost for something like two hours. Anticipation of the swim was key to the patience required for us to find a good path through the bog. After some ado we reached McNair Cabin.

Somehow, of all the photos taken on my little camera, that photo above is the best of all of Katherine. It is the second best photo of some of her. Below is the best photo of some of her.

After dinner we walked down to McNair Lake, our fourth of the day. I won’t tell what we did there.

Landing!

For the first time since April I have an address. Our wonderful friend Colleen is going to Ghana for six months and we have sublet her place beginning today. It comes with a closet, a bed, a kitchen, a mailbox, and myriad other home things.

Booyeah.

Trekking into the past

Today an adventure into tetrahedron park begins. When we traveled to the sunshine coast a week ago we sort of knew we would be going hiking a week later but didn’t really think it all through. Specifically, we failed to realize we would need hiking gear. Instead I brought a laptop computer. I also threw in some rugged clothes and boots to help Doug and Gail with yard work. That is now the hiking gear – along with other equipment on loan from the ’70s time capsule in their shed.
