tom foolery

I donned my cape early this morning to compete in the Pacific Populaire. You can tell I am a racer by my fancy “water” bottle.

If you ever want to get (yourself or someone else) pumped on science, I highly recommend the stylings of Neil deGrasse Tyson. He is the director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York. He has a sharp memory for detail and great communication skills – a fabulous combination for an Astrophysicist working on the front lines of public education.

In this great interview with Stephen Colbert (about 80 minutes long) he covers a beautiful cross-section of topics and leaves me stoked about my next visit to the Vancouver planetarium. The video is about two and a half years old but still totally relevant.

so damn old

Tiberius survived his Guatemalan internment. We ate cake and talked about Narnia tattoos. We ordered pictures of beer but the server kept getting it wrong.

offensive material

Usually I pay little attention to the trash that litters the grocery store check-out.

This magazine cover was so amazing I took a photo.

As I recall, everyone’s favourite role-model, Gandhi, twice undertook a “21-day fast” to melt “40 lbs” of his “resistant fat” while in a prison. (Literal or figurative prison? I don’t recall.) The British consistently misinterpreted this as an act of political protest. When he said he “can’t lose”, obviously he was referring to prior failed attempts to “get slim”. Gandhi is, after all, mostly known for having a healthy sexy beach bod.

If your 21-day fast leaves you feeling as though you have “no energy”, do not worry! This cover also unlocks energy enhancing secrets like: “Supercharge your caffeine boost with popcorn!”

This dumb shit really pisses me off.

“Woman’s World” would more aptly be named “how to fuck yourself and hate life.”

Subway system out to UBC!

Yesterday I discovered we will be getting a subway station at UBC in the near future! This is a certainty because we will soon have a Jugo Juice to go along with all  the rest of the reckless development at UBC and every transit rider has borne witness to our city’s commitment to linking all Jugo Juice locations via subway.

Photo evidence of our impending transit upgrade can be seen in the lower left.

“How I want a drink, alcoholic, of course, after the heavy lectures involving quantum mechanics!”

– Sir James Jeans

This is probably the most beautiful quote this particular day could hope for.

adults are just obsolete children

I am rather looking forward to seeing this movie adaptation (sequel?) to an amazing book: The Lorax.

Unfortunately the film rights owners are yet another example of the corporate sellout phenomenon and have sold product placement right to nearly 70 brands that would like to ride the “environmentalism” cash cow.

Stephen Colbert captures the hypocrisy nicely using Seussian Verse.

Losing interest

Today I got charged interest by VISA for the first time in my life.

It was an old card that I forgot I used for gas once in Ontario in January.

19.9% interest on $30.02  came to 85 cents. The emotional hurt is much greater.
